TEMPTATION TO RETALIATE, GLADSTONE AND THE GONERNMENT. London, Oct. 27, Mr Gladstone speaking at Leeds said the outrages committed by the Government were a fearful temptation to the Irish people to retaliate.
COUNTY CLARE INIBEVOLT. ORGANISATION OF A GREAT MEETING.
THE COERCED COERCING. London, October 28. The most intense excitement prevails in County Clare and the county is almost in a state of revolution, and the police are powerless. It has been impossible to prevent the holding of meetings of the people, who openly defy the authorities. Dillon is organising a great meeting, to be held on Monday next. It is to be got up for the purpose of intimidating the Recorder of Cork when reviewing the sentence on O’Brien. It is probable the Government will order the proclamation of the meet-
ing., Fresh contingents of police have been ordered to proceed to the district and a serious conflict is feared.
