“ The Panama Canal ” was the subject of a lecture that was delivered by Mr Warren in the Wesleyan Church on Tuesday evening. The very name ol the Panama Canal should have proved enough to draw a fair audience, considering the important way it will affect New Zealand when it is completed, but it is a sad fact that only about thirty persons availed themselves ol this oppoitunity to hear a lecture on a most important and interesting subject delivered by a gentleman ut MrWarren’s ability. Ir it had have been a lecture on the vices of the aristocracy or any subject where there was a probability ol hearing something spicy, the place would hav- been crowded out, and it is quite possible hie front seats would have been occupied by the selftermed aristocracy ut Gisborne.
