Two of the sapporters of Captain McKenaie, for Waikaia. caused the defeat of their candidate. They believed in voting early ■nd often. Consequently they voted at two polling piacse. The result was to give their man a majority of three. The act wae discovered when all the returns were examined, ■nd their double votes disclosed. The result was to land their man in a minority of •ne. Had fhny been satisfied with one vote each the Captain would have been returned by one vote. , A petition is likely to be adressed to the Hpuse by some electors of Dunedin South, praying for an enquiry into the alleged receiving of a bribe on the part of a new member, while bolding a season the Harbour Board.
