THE NEW GOLD FIND.

While we in Gisborne have been mildly rejoicing over the successful results of the South Pacific bore, the Thames folk have been pleasurably agitated by the alleged wonderful richness of the new reef discovered at Hikutaia, a place some ten miles up the Thames river. If the reports received through the Press relative to the find are to be given credence, there is likely to be a small rush to the new field. From the report given by Mr Allan Porter, a well-known Thames expert, it appears that the prospects of the lucky discoveries of the reef are of the most roseate description, as he announces that the face of the reef exhibits stone which is fully one-third bullion. The Thames has had a long streak of bad luck, but it is a long lane which has no turning and should the Hikutaia reef prove a success, a healthy stimulus will be given the mining industry of the Thames valley, which may have a very beneficial effect upon the prosperity of the district,
