A late telegram from Wellington says : —The annual meeting of the Wellington Pacing Club was held last week. The balance-sheet showed a total expenditure of £4lOO, of which £3200 was given in stakes. The receipts, compared with the previous year, showed a considerable falling off, which the stewards explained was owing to depression, and the lack of interest taken in racing in this district, also to the Club having to compete against the Island Bay Pacing Club. The totalisator commission showed a falling off of £523 on the previous year. The Club’s overdraft at the bank is £203, but the total deficit is slightly over £5OO. The Committee decided to reduce members’ subscription from three to two guineas. The programmes for the forthcoming season were not discussed.
At the Victoria Club recently 10,000 to 80 was taken by a prominent Sydney sporting man about Enfidale and Trident for the VE C. Derby and Melbourne Cup.
