Tuesday, August 30, 1887. MR M’DONALD’S MEETING
Be just and fear not; Let all the ends thou aiin’st at be thy country’s, Thy God’s, and truth's.
Mr McDonald, one of the candidates for the East Coast electorate, addresses the Gisborne electors to-night at McFarlane’s Hall. There is certain to be a large audience, for Mr McDonald is well known as a blunt outspoken politician, who, from his past political experience and his long connection with the district is well qualified to treat of matters of general and local political interest. We understand that he will reply at some length to the many and unjust:, liable slanders which have cast abroad by the Herald of late, and we trust that all those who believe in fair play and hearing both sides of a question will roll up to hear what Mr McDonald has to say on this head. We need scarcely ask for a fair and patient hearing for him, for the previous meetings of Messrs Gannon and Graham were a credit to the good sense of the electors, and it isjhardly likely that they will permit Mr McDonald’s political enemies to interrupt and annoy him. As to his political opinions, to-night will prove what stuff he is made of.
