The Gisborne Standard AND COOK COUNTY GAZETTE. Published every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday Morning.

Saturday, August 20, 1887. NEW ZEALAND ENTERPRISES.

Be just and tear not; Let ell the ends thou alm’Bt at be thy country's. Thy God’s, and truth’s. ’

At a time when a certain class of New Zealanders are energetically echoing the cry of “ stinking fish ’’ round the Colony, belittling our resources, crying down our credit, doing their utmost to damn their country, merely for political ends, it is pleasing to note any fresh evidence of John Bull’s belief in our agricultural and mineral wealth. This is apropos of the New Zealand Antimony Company, which, as our readers will notice by our cablegrams this morning, has been successfully floated at Home. The antimony mines for the more energetic working ot which the company has been started, are situated in the Nelson province, and for some yearsjpast have proved a valuable property. Their success in the future is now assured by the large amount of capital which will be devoted to their working by the new company, of which Sic Walter Buller is the Chairman of Directors.'’"TllB “capital is £250,000, of which £120,000 has already been subscribed. This is a most satisfactory start, and we trust that both the promoters and the shareholders will reap a large and speedy benefit. Sir Walter Buller is a shrewd, man, and not likely to lend his name to a bogus company, and the example thus given may be followed with most happy results to many New Zealand companies now languishing for want of capital. Antimony is]„one of the most valuable of metals, and our fellow-colonists in the Nelson province are to be congratulated upon the prospect afforded of the rapid development of one of the most valuable of their many resources in the way of mineral wealth.
