A “ PANEFUL ” ACCIDENT.
In these dull times a good laugh is always welcome, at no matter whose expense, and a few of our citizens had a side-splitting farce enacted for their entertainment yesterday afternoon. Two myrmidons of the law, acting upon instructions from the Deputy Official Assignee proceeded to the establish, ment of a well known local storekeeper at the upper end of Gladstone Road to enter into dne and lawful possession of a safe which formed a much disputed item when S. M. Wilson’s bankruptcy examination was on. Arrived at the scene the men of law attempted to take possession, but the holder and his better half, believing that they were better entitled to the safe than the D. 0. A. offered a strenuous resistance so strong indeed - that the limbs of the law had to retire to recruit additional force. The struggle was short, but severe while it lasted, and alas for the lady, who, by her exertions, exhibited a perfect Amazonian strength, for, in the ardour of her opposition, she came into hasty collision with a window. An average reasonable pressure to the square inch perhaps might have been withstood, but the lady being—well, say, not exactly syphlike in her proportions, but dowered by nature with a somewhat superabundance of adipose tissue, the glass succumbed, and through the big pane went a certain proportion of the fair defender’s body. Angry words gave place to roars of laughter, the officers and spectators having to hold their sides. After supplementing the strength of his contingent, the chief of the attacking party returned and succeeded in making a “ safe ” capture. If we are correctly informed, the affair is likely to result in gn notion for illegal entry,
