THE SPRING PROGRAMME. A Committee Meeting of the Poverty Bay Turf Club, for the purpose ot framing a Spring programme, was held in the Masonic Hotel yesterday afternoon. Those present were Messrs G. L. Sunderland (in the chair), J. W. Johnson, C. D. Pitt, J. R. Scott, Captain Winter, and W. Wethered. The following amounts and distances were decided on for the several events:—Maiden Plate, 40 sovs., lj miles; Jubilee Handicap, 150 sovs., miles; Handicap Hurdle Race, 70 sovs., 2 miles; Handicap Hack Selling Race, 30 sovs., 1 mile; Flying Handicap, 70 sovs., J mile ; Handicap Hack Flat Race, 30 sovs., Forced Handicap, 30 sovs., 1 mile and a distance. Messrs Pitt, Scott, and Bennett were appointed to fix the date for the meeting so as to avoid clashing with Hawkes Bay fixtures. Messrs Sunderland and Winter were ele:t id as a Ground Committee, and it was resolved to charge trainers half a guinea a year for each horse. From the above programme, which is very liberal, it will be seen that the Turf Club intend offering 420 sovs. to be competed for at their Spring gathering, and we have no doubt such stakes are bound to attract several outside owners ot horses.
