James McGrath, William Gullick, and Frederick Gulliok were drowned in the Avon river this riiornitig, Their boat was capsized whilst crossing the river. Two others who were in the boat at the time managed t Q gain the shore, The ages ot the deceased ranged from 21 to 15. It has bean raining very heavily here, and it is feared there may yet ba serious floods. A FREEZING HULK ASfiORE. A FOOLHARDY VENTURE-TERRIBLE RESULT. FOUR MORE DEATHS. Wellington, last night, At three o'clock this afternoon the freezing hulk Jubilee was blown ashore on the east side of the pier. She has a valuable cargo aboard, but not much damage to this is anticipated. In the morning a boat containing six men ventured out with the intention of reaching the Jubilee, but when about half-way the boat capsized, and four men named James Tetley, George Ashton, Edward Williams, and Samuel Tyndal weiie drowned. The other two were saved, but it was only after a desperate struggle for life. Tetley and Tyndall were married men, both having children. The accident is a peculiar one, and it is believed was the result of a foolhardy adventure. Alexander Small, a County Council Chairman, was charged this morning with making a false declaration as id tile number of votes in connnection with a poll for a proposed loan. The case was dismissed.
