The Wellington Burglars.
POLICE POWERLESS. THREE ROBBERIES IN ONE NIGHT. Wellington, last night. The sensation of the time at present is the numerous burglaries which are committed in the heart of the city in the most impudent and barefaced way, without the police being able to detect the offenders. Almost every day the papers record cases of housebreaking and robbery, and sometimes two or three cases are recorded as among the events of a single night. The police have been much censured for neglect, but they are not altogether to blame as there are only twelve constables to supply the night and day services, and they are decidedly over-worked.
