OUR LETTER BOX.

WHY NOT GISBORNE BAY? [To ths Edito*.] Sir,— l see by yoUr paper that you Want i tew outside opinions as to the advisability ot changing the name of the Bay. I think th* change is really desirable. I have been In. business here many years, and I feel surd* that everyone in the long run would be glad if the name were altered. There is no doubt there is a great deal in a name, especially in a bad one. Strangers hearing of Poverty Bay, naturally think it an odd namoi especially in a young and flourishing colony, and looking about for an origin, come to ths conclusion that it ie so called from the poverty of either the soil or inhabitants. No ona ever beard of a man called Poverty. I fores see there will be some difficulty in selecting • suitable name. Well everyone certainly oan« not be pleased. I like the idea of Victoria Bay myself, it is no more common than Cook, there is no other Bay so called that 1 know of, and if we follow the Colony of Victoria in progress, we should do well, But as " Victoria " does not seom to find mush favor, if I may offer a suggestion why not " Gisborne Bay," that would not be suoh a wrench to the feelings of the opposition party who ought to be considered a little. By the way I see you have left out the " Poverty “ in your own title. Apologieing for taking so much of your valuable time,— l am dta., A DOO WITH A BAD SAMI.
