Waimata Road Board.
Ax ordinary meeting of the Waimata Road Board was held on Tuesday last. Present - All the members. Mixons. The minutes of the last meeting were road and confirmed. Katti. A letter was read from Mr E. F. Harris staring that tiie roads in the Kaiti have been laid off by order of the Native Land Court, and as such are legal roads in terms of Section 91 and 92, Native Lands Court Act, 1886, and asking that the Board will therefore do the works asked tor.— The Chairman considered these roads should be gazetted before the Board made any expenditure upon them.—Resolved that Mr Kenny's opinion ba obtained as to the term “ private road in tho Native Lands Court Act, 1886.” Hapaba No. 9. A letter from Mr J. B. Lane asking that the back road in Hapara No. 3 may be made available for traffic.—Resolved that Mr Warren report upon the requirements of that district. Wonus Committee. The above Committee reported very fully upon the necessary works, and it was ordered that a new drain be cut in Clifford Street, from Ballance Street to Sheehan Street.— That a drain and culvert be out acroae Clifford Street.—That a drain be out from McLean Street to Sheehan Street on the north side of Stout Street. — That Stout Street be levelled off near Mr MaunaeU’e house.—That a drain be out from BaUanoe Street to Sheehan Street.
Btybbside. Resolved that tenders be invited for clearing slips from the Riverside Road from ■ection 24 to the Waimata Ford at Yardley’s.—The Clerk reported that he had employed three men for 11 days to clear these steps, but they had made so little impression on the quantity of slipped earth that he asked the Board to consider whether the whole of the slips should be removed by con tract.—Approved, Harun Pile Drivers. ~ The C’.cik lepbrted that he had employed Mr Stuckey to replace it bridge that had been washed away from the Hapara Road, and had also had a pile driver built at a cost of £6, The cost of replacing the bridge and finding new piles had been £ll 2° Bd.— Approved, Manoapafa Bridoy, Resolved that tenders be called for the erection of a new bridge on the line cf the Margapapa Road.—Mr Gannon gave his consent for the Board to use the loose stone on the Mangapapa Block for the purpose of tasking the approaches. Rate, 1887. Proposed by Mr Coleman, seconded by Mr Clayton, that U general rate of |d iu the pound be made upon all properties within the road district for the period commencing Ist April, 1887, ending 31st March, 1888, to be due and payable in one sum on the Ist August, 1887.—Carried. Riverside Road, air Clayton moved, and it was carried, that the portion of Riverside Road from the Cutting of the imall bridge to the boundary of section 4, Block F, be moUiled, and from there the road be widened to 14 feet and fascined for the present winter months, and afterwards gravelled, and that the settlers in that locality pay to the Board the sum of £4O towards the work. Sub- division 8r Dial Bici, The Board considered the question of subdiving the district, and also whether a better road could not be formed on the Kaiti side than on the Whataupoko side for the purpose of reaching the Pouawa Block, but no definite action was taken in.either case.
