NEW ZEALAND RAILWAYS. npHE Railway Department urgently requires workmen for the renewal of the Railway Bridge over the Arnold River at Stillwater. The work will last several months, and for those who are suitable, or who so desire, will be offered further employment. Inquiries by interested persons should be made at the office of the Resident Civil Engineer, Railways, in Mark Sprott’s Building, Mackay Street, Greymouth, or at the office of the Foreman of Works, Elmer Lane, or Inspector Permanent Way, Westport. Selected personnel will be given full trade-training up Jo a high standard as detailed below: — EQUIPMENT ASSISTANT: .Equivalent to a highly trained civilian storeman. Movements of personnel and freight by land, sea and air. CLERK GENERAL DUTIES: Secretarial and clerical duties. CLERK ACCOUNTING: Pay ledgers and pay lists. Accounting for stores etc. FIRECREW: Firefighting—specialist training covering aircraft fire risks in addition to normal qualifications required by civilian firemen. COOK (age limits 17i to 48 years): Training in dietary, elementary dietetics, presentation and serving of meals, practical butchery. OPPORTUNITIES IN ALL TECHNICAL AND RADIO TRADES. Initial engagements up to eight years with prospects of longer-term engagements whilst serving. Applications also invited from men up to age of 48 years for enlistment as:— AIRCRAFTHAND: General station duties of a semi-skilled and unskilled nature. MECHANICAL TRANSPORT DRIVERS: Driving and day-to-day serving of all M.T. vehicles. Initial engagements up to five years. RESERVISTS: Vacancies exist in all ground trades for trained reservists, including a limited number of 24-years engagements. Those selected for long term may buy back previous service for superannuation purposes. WOMEN’S AUXILIARY AIR FORCE: Vacancies in all W.A.A.F. trades including Administrative, Equipment Assistant,.
