STATE ACQUIRES TWO BUS SERVICES

AUCKLAND, Nov. 23.

Two of the oldest bus services operating from Auckland, W. J. Wheeler and Sons, Ltd’s, routes to Pukekohe and to Manurewa and Papakura, have been voluntarily sold to the Railway Road Services. The State will take over from November 28. The company will hand over 13 of its fleet of 31-seater buses. Drivers will accompany the buses in their transfer to the Government. “The deciding factor in handing over the two services is that the return allowed on capital invested is not sufficient to allow' for expansion on the one side of the business, and for obsolescence on the other,” said the managing director of the company, Mr W. L. Wheeler.
