FOREIGN CREW REFUSE DUTY
(Rec. 5.Q). MELBOURNE, Nov. 19. Forty foreign seamen, comprising Greeks, Egyptians, Italians, and Somalilanders, refused duty on the Panamanian passenger liner, Derna, after the refusal of the master to grant their demands for guarantees that their quarters and food should be improved. They alleged that they were forced to live like animals in unhealthy, primitive quarters. When the Derna berthed on November 5, with 550 European migrants, the Federal Security Police investigated reports of Communist propaganda among the passengers. The ship has been loading wheat fox' Europe.
