Dominion Monarch Ready for Service
(Rec. 9.0) LONDON, Nov. 16 The Shaw Savill ship, the Dominion Monarch, is ready for service again after her war-time troop carrying. The reconversion took fifteen months and cost more than the original building cost nine years ago. The Dominion Monarch has come from the shipyards as a first-class passenger ship, fitted with every modern convenience and navigation aid, including radar. She will begin the voyage to Wellington on December 22 carrying a full complement of passengers and about half her cargo capacity. The company is experimenting with a single discharging and loading port in New Zealand, largely because of the “turn round” time. It is expected that Auckland will be added after this voyage. The Company’s General Manager, Mr W. Errington Keville will be a passenger to Wellington. The commander is still Sir H. R. Gordon.
