NAVY LEAGUE ESSAY PRIZES

WELLINGTON, Nov. 16. The results of the Palmer Prize essay competition, conducted by tne Wellington Navy League and open to all schools in New Zealand, were announced to-day as follows;— SENIOR, “The Achievements of the Navy in the Wars against Germany, 1914-18 and 1939-45”: —Boys: ret er Drysaale Brian (Hastings High School); girls: Mary Ryan (St. Marv’s College, Wellington). INTERMEDIATE, “Naval men and the exploration of the Pacific •; — Boys: Peter Aubrey Taylor (Wellington College); girls: Dianne Harris (St. Mary’s College, Wellington). JUNIOR, “The Navy as a Career”: —Boys: Geoffrey William Baxall (Shirley Intermediate School, Christchurch); girls: Mary Clare Mackenzie (St. Mary’s College, Wellington). The subjects were selected by E. N. Hogben, headmaster of Wellington College. The examiners were Colonel R. St. J. Beere, LieutenantCommander W. Olphert, Commander C. H. Beacham, Lieutenant-Com-mander R. H. Carter, and Mr R. Darroch.
