WATAROA NOTES
(Our Own Correspondent). WATAROA, November 14. The gorse power cutter is shortly to operate in the Wataroa area. Many acres of gorse exist on lands fronting the Wataroa River, and if this machine proves satisfactory, it will be used extensively. The Inspector of Dairy Sheds, etc., visited this district recently to confer with farmers regarding improvements to cow sheds and surroundings. Heavy floods in the rivers caused minor damage in many places. His Lordship Bishop Lyons, will visit Wataroa and stay for two or three days before returning northward. Several boxes of whitebait from Blue River were transported to Ross this week. The bulldozer, which continues to clear farm land here has been unable to work owing to the wet weather. Ice floes are attracting a number of visitors to Franz Josef Glacier. The floes are near the top of the glacier. The County Engineer visited Wataroa and Franz Josef districts to inspect the flood damage. Mr. lan Thompson, who is employed here, has been on the sick list, but is making a speedy recovery. Miss June Adamson has returned home after visiting Invercargill where she has been nursing some patients. Mr. A. Clark and Mr. James Donovan, County Councillors, attended the County Council meeting at Hokitika during the week. Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Nolan of Okuru who are visiting Wataroa, were presented with a daughter during the week. Mr. Jim Thompson of Okarito, who has disposed of his property, is leaving for Hokitika to take up a business. Mr George Groufsky of W. FI. Stopforth and Coy., was a visitor to Wataroa during the week.
