REEFTON HOSPITAL
(To The Editor) Sir—Regarding the report of the last Inangahua Hospital Board meeting, I noticed they decided nbt to appoint a secretary-manager. Well, the majority of the. board went in on a Labour'vote, and promised that would be one of their first jobs. Now they are side-stepping the issue. Why don’t they shoulder their. responsibilities and do as they promised? They say there is no room for a Manager to take over. If the commodities were bought in smaller quantities, there would not have been waste such as has happened in the past. Flies are pound io be brought if large pieces of meat, and thrown into the garbage tin or a barrowful of fat is left in the back yard. A board member said the fowlhouse had better be cleaned out or the Health Inspector would be on them. I wonder if any visiting committee had ever had an eyeful of the medical ward. Having with two visitors from Christchurch, gone there to see a patient, I can testify they both (one a trained sister from the north) were more than surprised at the lack of tidiness and cleanliness. Now, Sir, I think it time that the board put on a Manager. One member was told of waste at the back door months before he did anything about it. Just before the election he made a noise. When a member has a lot to say about waste, the board must be aware of it. If they put.in a Manager they may need no wire doors. lam etc., “ H yg!ENE”
