COMET SEEN IN MANY MORE PLACES

WELLINGTON, Nov. 12. “A well-known Wellington amateur astronomer, old enough to have made fairly careful observations of pretty well all the comets from the time of Halley’s comet in ,1910, has reported that the comet seen this week is, in his opinion, easily . the best since Halley’s,’’ said the Director of the Carter Observatory, Mr I. L. Thomsen to-day. He added that since yesterday he had received further reports on the comet from many places in New Zealand, and also from Tonga, Fiji, Rarotonga and Canberra. A Westport report states that the comet was clearly visible in the eastern sky early on Wednesday morning. There are no other reports from the West Coast.
