ATHLETICS N.Z.A.C.A. Union Discuss N.Z. Championship Meeting at Greymouth

A general meeting of the West Coast Centre of the New Zealand Axemen’s, Cycling and Athletics’ Union was held in the Rugby League rooms last evening before a good attendance. Mr J. Tennent, who presided, welcomed Mr F. Morgan, of the Plumb Axe Co., Inc., of Philadelphia, U.S.A., and stated how pleased he, and all members were in having had the opportunity of meeting him personally. They were deeply grateful for his firm’s handsome donation of seven racing axes for tcieir forthcoming championship meeting. Mr Morgan, thanking Mr Tennent for his kind remarks, said that ne like Mr Tom Pettit, had a soft spot for the West Coast, and he hoped that he would be present at tne championship meeting. He noticed one event on the axemen’s programme carrying no racing axe troohy, and ,on behalf of his firm, he had great pleasure in bringing it into line with the other events by donating another axe. The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed. The executive s action in granting the Hokitika Club permission to hold a sports meeting on the same day as that of the Rapahoe Club (Boxing Day) was approved. It was left for the secretary to order championship ribbons Tor the cycling events. Messrs J. Donaldson, J. Swarbrick, and W. Buckman were appointed a committee to inspect all logs on the bank. It was decided to write to the Nelson Creek Club requesting the loan of their log foundations. Mr Dixon (Te Kinga) presented a cup, on behalf of Mr Lowe, of Te Kinga, who desired the Committee to allot it to any event they wished. It was decided to add this trophy to the 135 yards handicap. Mr Tennent presented another cup which was allotted to the 12-ineh President’s Handicap under-hand chon. The secretary reported that so far donations totalled £175 cash, with several cups and other trophies. The chairman pointed out that man-' of the business firms of tne town who had been written to soliciting donations towards the expenses of running these championships had not as yet replied, hut he trusted that they would do so in the near future so that the Centre would be able to estimate what other finance would be necessary. The secretary was instructed to make inquiries as to taking out an insurance policy against accident to spectators The next meeting was set down for Friday, December 3, at 6.45 pan. To-day’s Programme The programme for to-day’s opening athletic meeting at Victoria Park is:— Track: 50yds, 75yds, 300yds, threequarter mile and 75yds hurdles. These events will be contested by both senior and junior grades, and the programme for women will be the same with the exclusion of the two longer track races. Field: Seniors: Javelin throw, long jump, discus throw. Junior: Discus throw, hop, step, and jump, shot pul. Women: Shot put, javelin throw, long jump.
