ALL U.S. Waterfront Likely to he Idled by Spreading Strike

(Rec. 9.15). NEW YORK. Nov. 11. A strike of longshoremen has tied up the harbours of New York, Boston, and Philadelphia. The strike is expected to cover all of the east coast U.S. ports by to-morrow. The west coast of America has already been tied up for 71 days by a strike of longshoremen. It is thought that, by Monday, the strike will extend to the southern gulf ports, thus paralysing the nation’s entire waterfront. At the .past coast ports, the men are striking against a new contract which has been approved by their own leaders and by the shipping companies, providing for an increase of ten cents an hour in wages. In New York alone, the loading and unloading of at least 230 ships has ' been interrupted.
