Amateur Sports Club

At a meeting of the Westport Amateur Athletic and ’Cycling Club’s Committee in the Community Centre arrangements were made for the opening ol the season with a trial meeting on Victoria Square on Occuoer 20, when a road race from the Square to Sergeant’s Hill and back will be decided. It was agreed that all committee men should meet at Victoria Square at 6.3 U on the evening before the opoiLS gathering. . Additional olncers appointed were; Referee Mr T. Phipps; hon. secretary, Mr P. Sullivan; judges, Messrs G.'Fraser, J. S. Connelly, S. Johnson and C. McHerron; call stewards, Messrs D. Strachan and S. Dany; timekeepers, Messrs D. Johnson and a. i'. Risdaie. . , Other officials will be appointed on the evening of the first meeting. It was decided to invite Mr J. Oakey (delegate on the Canterbury Centre) to arrange for a visit from a Canterbury athletic and cycling team as soon as possible.
