DEMONSTRATION AT GRAZIANI TRIAL
ROME, October 12. Marshal Rodolfo Graziani shouted “Put them out. Take them in charge —they will spoil all my work,” when a crowd demonstrated in the courtroom in his favour. Graziani addressed the court for five hours, behaving more like a pro-consul in charge of a case than a prisoner. Graziani accused the Italian and foreign press of printing infamies about him, planned by ambitious fellow officers and Fascists, paticularly the head of the first Italian surrender Government, Marshal Badolio. Graziani, in an impassioned defence of his military and political administration, went minutely over his 25-year career in Africa, describing the attempts against his life and the battles he commanded. The demonstration occurred at the end of his recital, when a spectator in the gallery shoutted, “Viva, Graziani.”.
Graziani leaped to his feet, directing the police to quell the demonstration, shouting “agents, provocateurs.” The police detained one demonstrator.
