DOCTOR’S NARROW ESCAPE WHEN HOME BURNED

GISBORNE, Oct. 12

Partially overcome by smoke and unable to reach the main exits, Dr. Harold Weeks was helped to safety by his daughter Betty last night, when lire completely destroyed their twostorey home at Tolaga Bay. The fire started from the explosion of a kerosene stove and quickly enveloped the whole building. Dr. Weeks narrowly escaped serious injuries when he re-entered tho house to attempt to save some possessions. His daughter broke a window and assisted her father outside. Both were scorched by the heat. The losses included all the contents medical equipment and books. A bucket-brigade succeeded in saving a detached building, which also caught fire. ______
