Raid on Waterside Union Offices

WELLINGTON, Oct. 11

The office of the Wellington Waterside Workers’ Union, in shed No. 15 on the wharves was entered during the week-end and several cartons of cigarettes, bought by the union as part of the stocks of tobacco regularly distributed to hospital patients, were stolen.

Entry was obtained from the wharves through the waterfront bureau on the ground floor. The bureau was also searched by the thieves without result

The door to the union'office on the second floor was opened by breaking a glass panel. Gelignite was used to open the safe and all the drawers and cabinets in the premises were ransacked.

The intruders ignored some pipe tobacco, which was with the cigar ettes in a steel cabinet.
