Favourable New Zealand Trade Balance with More Imports
WELLINGTON, Oct. 11
The trade balance lor July was favourable to the extent of £4,415,000, compared with an unfavourable balance of £608,000 in July, 1047. For the 12 months ended Juiy, 1048 there was a surplus of export values over ...ipOxts or i-J,723,000 compared with £26,893,000 for the 12 months ended on Juiy 3x, 194 f. Juiy was the last complete month on the basis of the old exchange. For the seven months oi the year exports totalled £104,218,000, and imports £79,404,000. Both tatals exceeded the figures for January-July, 1947, which were £84,648,000 and £63,876,000 respectively. These figures vyere given by the Minister of Customs, Mr Nash. As between two seven monthly periods, this year and last year , the value of exports had increased at a rate slightly more than the rate of increase in the value of imports, with the result that the favourable balance lor the first seven months of the year stood at £24,814,000—£4,042,000 higher than for the same period las t year, and £1,265,000 above 1946, Mr Nash said.
