Wave of Violence Sweeps Philippines
(Rec. 10.0). MANILA, October 11. A new wave of violence left 16 Filipinos dead on Luzon yesterday. Thirteen persons died in a clash with the Hukbalahaps (Communist-led outlaws), and three others were killed in an ambush of a United States Army jeep. According to reports, Philippines law enforcement officials are getting ready for a long, drawn-out campaign against dissident elements. The situation has reached a point where it is no longer safe to be on the highways outside city limits after dark.
