Mr Kevin Fisher, of the staff of the State Mines Office, Dobson, leaves today for the North Island on relieving duties. He will be in charge of the Department’s Ohura office.
The death has occurred of Mr Charles Tandy, aged 88, one of Wellington’s oldest born residents, ana a former vice-president of Wellington Early Settlers’ Association.
The Mayor, Mr F. F. Boustridge, will leave tomorrow to. attend the South Island Local Bodies Conference, to be held Westport on Wednesday and Thursday.
Mr Edmund Anscombe, of Wellington, one of New Zealand’s leading architects, has died, after a sudden illness, aged 75. Though he had been responsible for the designing of many of the Dominion’s largest buildings, Mr Anscombe is particularly remembered as the architect and designer of the 1940 Centennial Exhibition buildings at Rongotai, and as having been a main driving force behind the whole project.
The Commissioner of Transport, Mr G L. Laurenson, and the chief engineer to the Transport Department, Mr Forsyth, arrive at Westport on Thursday, and Greymouth next Monday. They will remain here until Wednesday, and will discuss with truck operators the question of excessive weights of trucks on classified roads in the district.
