LEAGUE FOOTBALL ENGLAND’S TWO-POINT WIN IN FIRST TEST WITH KANGAROOS
(Rec. 9.0) LONDON, Oct. 9. England beat Australia by 23 points to 21 in the first Rugby League test at Headingley to-day, after leading by 11 to 6 at half-time. ’The game was fast and clean. Graves, Churchill and Mulligan played brilliantly for the Kangaroos. McCormack and Foster starred for England. A crowd of about 38,000 saw the match. Tries were scored for England by Poster (2), McCormack (2), Pimblett (2) and Valentine. Ernest Ward kicked a goal. For Australia, McMahon (2), Froome, Graves and Hall scored tries. Graves kicked three goals.
AUCKLAND, October 10. The visiting Western Suburbs (Sydney) team yesterday defeated Marist by 19 to 15.

The nominations for the Greymoutli Trotting Club’s two day spring meetting to be held on October 23 and 25, close at 8 p.m. to-night. As on former occasions a large contingent of Canterbury-owned and trained pacers and trotters are likely to be in evidence. With a big number oi West-port-trained light harness horses ready to race, and several locallytrained horses worked into racing shape, as a result of the recent matinee meetings, large fields are likely to be in vogue on both days.
