THE TURF SUCCESSFUL MATINEE MEETING AT VICTORIA PARK
The West Coast Owners’ and Breeders’ Association has every reason to be proud of the success of their second matinee meeting conducted on Saturday at Victoria Park. Good Pelds were paraded in what was a dross rehearsal of local horses prior io the Labour week-end meeting at Greymouth. . , . Some good times were registered, and the meeting was conducted most efficiently by the committee, with Mr I. Steel as starter and Mr L. hughes as his assistant. The judge was Mr J. ,\. Mclnroe, assisted by Mr. A. I. Reid, and some close finishes provided them with a difficult task. Mr J. J. O’Donnell acted as secretary for the meeting. Between 400 and 500 patrons attended. Results: — Blaketown Handicap, 9 rurlongs, 2.23 class: KNIGHT BAR (Gardyne) i; Hazard Queen (Stewart , )2; Tolan (McNamara) 3; Great Artist, 12yds (Kirk) 4. Won by half a length; live lengths. Times: 2.40 3-5; 2.41 3-o; 2.47 4-5. Victoria Park Handicap, one mile and live furlongs, 3.53 class: SANDBIRD (L. Stewart) 1; Motto, 48yds (D. Manderson) 2; Patti Dale, 60yds (J. McClure) 3; Hardy Annual, 36yds (I-t. Kennedy) 4. Won by three lengths; 12 lengths. Times: 3.57 2-5; 3.54 2-5’ 4.3. ’ Cobden Trot, one mile and live furlongs, 4.0 class: YOUNG NEEN (Davidson) 1; Barbara Woods (H. Kennedy) 2; Globe Queen (G. N. Elsom) 3. Won by half a length; 100 yds. Times: 3.58; 3.58 1-5. Karoro Handicap, one mile and three furlongs, 2.56 class: VICTOR) PEAL- 1; Knight Bar, 24yds 2; Golden Pye 3; Skyhook 4.
