Cool, blusterly conditions prevailed when match play in the New Zealand women’s golf championships at Mokowhitu was commenced this morning. Results were:—• Mrs j. B. Hatrick (Miramar) beat Miss C. Harvc (Omakau), 4 and 3.

The Wanganui Player was 2 up altei four holes, but Mrs. Hollis tookthe fifth in six to seven. Miss Mclntyre was out in 44. and Mrs, Holhs m 4a. Miss Mclntyre then struck trouble and lost three holes in succession. The 13th. was halved in fives and the end came after Mrs. Hollis had won the 14th. and 15th. Mrs. A. McFadyen (Eltham) was no match for Mrs. J. Cliff (Mana watu), the latter winning 7 and 6 A match which ended at the IJtn. was that between Mrs. C. McCormick (New Plymouth) and Miss E. M. Nutt (Christchurch). Miss J. Duncan (Wanganui) eliminated Mrs. J. E. Salisbury (Invercargill) at the 16th. Miss Duncan was 1 up at the turn, which she reached in 41 against her oppopent’s 43. Two wins at the 10th. and 11th. Placed the Wanganui player 3 up, but Mis. Salisbury reduced this to 2 at t. he 12th. A win at the 16th. gave Miss Duncan the match. Mrs. P. Andrew (Titirangi) beat Mrs. J. Dolan (Otago), a member of "the South Island team, 5 and 3. lhey were square at the turn, but Mis. Andrew then won three holes in a Io Miss E. Wilkinson (Grange) proved too good for Mrs. A. Stirling (Manawatu), winning 7 and 5. Miss Wilkinson. the present title-holder, played brilliantly on the outward journey, being out in 38. PROSPECTIVE WINNER

Miss C. Smith (Invercargill) failed to reproduce anything like her best form when she was beaten by Miss H. Buchanan (Christchurch), 4 and 3. Miss Smith, who is . wellknown as one of the finest stylists in New Zealand golf, was having trouble with a swing fault, which developed yesterday afternoon and there was an unaccustomed looseness in her long game. On to-day’s form, Miss Buchanan, who is- a strong match player, will not be easy to eliminate from the championship. Final Of Four-ball Match The Greymouth Men’s Golf Club will play the final of the Brown and Walters Cup four-ball best-ball competition at Kaiata to-morrow, starting at the first and tenth tees at J. 15 a.m. The draw is as follows: — Boustridge and Stewart; Cameron and Woodhouse; Francis and Reid; Cox and Potter; Garth and J. Phillips; Thomas and R. Anderson; Wallis and Alford; Taylor and Bluett; Stopforth and Chibnail; Hardie and Patton; Heaphy and O’Donnell; Hill and McMillan; Lindley and Murdoch; Meldrum, Ryan and Harry; Ray and Harrington; Wilkins and Luey; Sansom and Dawson; J. Smith and Corbishley; Rhodes and Harrison; Stirton and Chivers. The final of the intermediate chamnionship will also be played at Kaiata to-morrow morning, commencin'3, at 9 o’clock. The match, which will be played over 36 holes, will b e contested by R. Donaldson and A. E. Foster. At 1.15 p.m. to-day, from tne No. 1 tee, the final of the. Orkney Cup competition will be played between J. N. 'Thomas and S. E. Cox.

Women’s Competition Final The Greymouth Women’s Club will play the final round of the Robert-son-Neville Cup foursome competition at Kaiata to-day. . Von Nida’s / Record Round LONDON, Oct. 7 With a record-breaking final round of 63, the Australian, Norman von Nida, won the Masters’ golf tournament at Sunningdale. His total was 272 for 72 holes . Fred Dalv, 274, was second, and van Donck, 276, third. Ven Nida described his . 63 as “the greatest round in my life.” He began the last round six strokes behind van Donck and by the eleventh had taken the lead.
