MEDIATOR’S HOPES OF PALESTINE PEACE

The acting United Nations' mediator for Palestine, Dr Ralph Bunche, of America, who is en route to Paris, said that there was a greater possibility now of a settlement between the Jews and Arabs than four months past. He was most hopeful that an agreement would be reached. PLANS TO RESETTLE COUNTRY WITH JEWS. (Rec. 11.10) LONDON, Oct. 8 A British United Press correspondent at Tel Aviv says: Joseph Weitz, head of the Jewish National Fund, announced that a five-year agricultural resettlement plan would be launched in the state of Israel. During the first year ten thousand people would be settled in northern Israel, and twenty-five thousand in the Negrev area —provided this territory remains within the Jewish state. U.S. Loan For Israel ? WASHINGTON, Oct. 7. . The proposal for a loan to Israel of 100,000,000 dollars by the United States Export-Import Bank has been shelved Instead consideration is being given to the financing of specific projects in Israel. It is understood that the disturbed conditions in that country made the loan a bad risk.
