AERIAL WAR OF NERVES ALLEGED TO BE GOING ON IN THE BERLIN AIR CORRIDORS

(N.Z.P.A. —Reuter Cable). (Received October 8, at 10.0 p.m.) LONDON, October 8.

Reuter’s correspondent at Berlin says: The Soviet authorities are disregarding verbal protests made yesterday by the Western Powers against Russian air activity in the Berlin corridors, have again notified that large scale Soviet air manoeuvres would be continued to-day in the Allied air corridors.

An American spokesman said: 4 ‘The Russians are just continuing their aerial war of nerves in the Allied corridors.”

Only “Short Of

Shooting Cannon”

(Rec. 10.30) PARIS, Oct. 8 “The Russian blockade of Berlin is a threat to world peace, if ever there was one short of shooting cannon,” said the United States Secretary of State, General G. C. Marshall, speaking informally at the American Club. General Marshall declared that the United States would resist such tactics and the European Recovery Plan was part of .that resistance.

Russians Drop Bombs in' Their Zone

LONDON. Oct. 7.

The British fliers in the Berlin airlift to-day reported seeing Russian planes drop live bombs about 12 miles north-west of Berlin, in the Soviet zone. It might be part of the Russian manoeuvres announced earlier.

R.A.F. officers said the observations of the pilots were being considered at a special conference and the findings would be made known later. THE AIRLIFT

General Clay said that Allied aircraft are at present carrying 5000 tons of coal and wood daily, to Berlin.
