At the Opera House

Now Showing: “The Exile,” starring Douglas Fairbanks, Junr., and Maria Montez. “THE EXILE”

Released by Universal International Pictures in conjunction with the Fairbanks Company,, “The Exile”, starring Douglas Fairbanks, Junr., and featuring Maria Montez, Paule Croset (new screen sensation), and Henry Daniel, now showing at the Opera House. The swashbuckling story concerns England’s King Charles II in the year 1660, when he was in exile in Holland from his political enemies, Oliver Cromwell’s fanatical followers. While there he falls in love with a Dutch farm girl, Miss Croset, although he spends a good deal of his time with a former sweetheart from France, portrayed by Miss Montez. Despite the two lovely women, Fairbanks as King Charles is concerned mainly with overthrowing Cromwell’s despotic rule, and the story revolves around his sword fights and narrow escapes from his enemies which, of course, he does successfully. story of a conservative small-town judge who marries a headstrong young girl from the wrong end of the town. Their marriage is threatened from every side by town gossip and class prejudice, but most of all by the i

attentions of suave, handsome Brad Criley played by Zachary Scott. Spencer Tracy turns in his usual excellent performance? as the honest, amiable. Cass, while Lana Turner is superb as the unpredictable Jinny Marshland.

Zachary Scott fits easily into the role of the “other man” and the three stars are ably supported by a strong cast, including such well-known per- , sonalities as Tom Drake, Mary Astor, Albert Dekker and Margaret Lindsay.
