The funeral of Mr James William Bird left the Salvation Army citadel, Westport, at 2 p.m. yesterday, for Orowaiti Cemetery. The bearers were Messrs R. Mann, W. Andrews, F. Heywood, and W. Vaile, who represented the watersiders; and Messrs J. Harris and R. Williamson, representing the Salvation Army Band. Captain Briggins conducted the service at the citadel and at the cemetery. There was a large gathering of friends. Yesterday’s airways passengers were: From Wellington, Mrs Robson; from Nelson, Mr W. Andrews, Miss M. McKay, Mr T. E. Southwell; for Nelson, Mr T. E. Maunsell, Mr Stratford; for Wellington, Mr and Mrs A. J. Pointon and infant, Mr A. J. Pointon, junr., Miss J. A. Pointon, Masters R. A. and G. A. Pointon, Miss C. Hall.
