Borough Council Decisions

The following resolutions were adopted from the various committees by the Westport Borough Council at its meeting on Wednesday evening as resolutions of the Council:— Accounts and revenue committee: That accounts as scheduled in the District Fund, and in the Gas. Supply Improvement Loan, amounting to £5985 Ils 4d, be passed for payment. Works and waterworks committee): That Lake Finn be reclaimed, by the depositing of suitable rubbish, and later by laid out as a sporting ground. That concrete kerbing and channeling be laid down in Palmerston Street on both sides, between Rintoul and Brougham Streets, as much as possible to be completed before the Royal visit. That after viewing works in progress and completed, the Councillors present are of opinion that in view of the development work required by the expansion of th? borough, the maximum amount of work is being carried out by the staff and the equipment at present available.

Reserves committee: That the Buller Cricket Association be granted the use of Victoria Square for the season, on the same conditions as last year, and also the Buller Softball Association, both Associations having agreed on the methods of using the playing area at the same time; the Athletic Association to be granted four Saturdays, and one evening per week, the unafliliated cricket clubs to be given two days on Kilkenny Park. All sports bodies using the Square are to be required to forego any day required by the Council for any civic function. General purposes committee: That tlie report of the Town Clerk and the Electrical Engineer, with reference to the sale of electrical assets, be received, and that the conditions of sale and the valuation of assets to be sold be approved, and submitted to the Buller Electric Power Board, the Board’s reply to be dealt with by the committee before negotiations are commenced.
