Omoto Racecourse Parking Area To be Extended

A decision to extend the parking area at the Omoto racecourse was reached at a meeting of the Greymouth Jockey Club’s Committee on Wednesday evening. It was decided to hold over a proposal to purchase a tractor until after the club's January meeting. The resignation of the caretaker Mr J. N. Neville, was accepted with regret, and he w’as thanked lor his services.

The New Zealand Racing Owners and Trainers’ Association forwarded a circular letter on a proposed universal method of taking nominations and acceptances, stating that branches had decided in favour of the following: (1) That nominations should not be taken more than two weeks before a meeting and then on a Monday; (2) that weights could be declared on the following Monday without the necessity for rehandicaps; (3) that acceptances could be taken on the Tuesday following the declaration of handicaps, thus leaving sufficient time for the preparation of race cards. The committee decided to approve of the proopsals in principle but members pointed out the difficulties that would arise during the Christmas and New Year circuit on the West Coast where meetings were held within a few days of each other. It was resolved that the Railways Department be advised that the club would appreciate the train arrangements for the January meeting as on previous occasions. A letter was received from the Lands and Survey Department stating that the road adjoining the .racecourse creek was now included in the club’s reserves. A copv of the itinerary of the Wellington Boys’ Institute Band for its West Coast visit revealed that the band hoped to play at the club’s meeting on January 8. It was decided to offer the band every encouragement. Mr J. H. North was elected a"member of the club.
