As for wind—it blows so strongly at Campbell Island that wind recording instruments have been blown from their moorings on numerous occasions.

Anglers and duck shooters seem to have swapped seasons for the commencement of their sports this year. Guns on Lake Wairarapa struck clear sunny days, while anglers on “the first” in the Wellington area were confronted with conditions that would have been excellent for duck shooting, with very little more rain. The Mangaroa seems to have fished well under the conditions, provided several small bags, and persevering anglers generally managed to secure a fish or two, elsewhere but they had definitely to be worked for.
