New Westport Buildings
WESTPORT, October 6. Considerable building activity has taken place in Westport during the past six months, the total value of work authorised being £81,840, . 01 which £63,000 was for State housing, reported the Building Inspector (Mr A. E. G. Knight), to the Westport Borough Council. Mr. Knight gave the following figui'es:— Private buildings: Six new private dwelling-houses, erected, estimated value £8,262; 90 alterations and additions to dwellings, sheds, etc, £10,578; total 96 building permits issued, estimated value £18,840. Government Buildings: Eight State houses completed and occupied; 34 State houses still under construction, making 42 State units, estimated value £63,000. Fees collected in the Borough totalled £3BB Ils. During September, 25 building permits were issued, the estimated cost of the work being _£4,668. During the month one and a-quar-ter chains of 4” drains were laid to three new houses; one stormwater trap installed; extension of 15’ to a 6” stormwater main; one grease-trap and 30ft. of 4” drain laid' in Victoria Square; one blocked sewer main cleared; 10 blocked house sewers cleared; helping to lay gas main in Mill Street.
