VALUES EASIER AT ADDINGTON

Cattie Prices Decline by £1 P.A. CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 6' Except for pigs, the prices of live stock generally were lower at Addington market to-day. Store Sheep.—The entry was 2855, comprising 1310 ewes and lambs, 1302 hoggets, 208 wethers, and 35 ewes. In the main, the quality was good but the demand was slack and sales were slow. Hoggets were 2s to 2s 6d cheaper and ewes and lambs fully 2s. Most of'the hogget entry comprised shorn wethers of which several lines came from Marlborough. Top price for ewe hoggets in wool was 455, and another lot made 445. A pen of woolly wether hoggets made 44s 9d. The top price for shorn wether hoggets was 40s, for a well grown line in forward condition. The best made 35s to 40s; medium 29s to 325; others down to 255. Ewes and Lambs.—There were useful lots among the ewes and lambs. Top price was 33s 9d for a very good line of 41 Romney cross ewes, with 46 big lambs. The best made 28s 9d to 33s 9d; medium 25s to 275. Culls were down to 13s 6d. The best of the wethers made 40s 3d.

Spring Lambs. —The entry of 210 was the biggest of the season. The sale started slowly, and then prices appreciated sharply by 6s, and towards the end receded by 3s to 4s. Values were extra prime spring lambs to 61s Id; prime 50s to 565, good 45s to 495; medium 40s to 445; light 36s to 395. Fat Hoggets.—The entry was 825 and in spite of the big entry, buyers bid freely for the best at pricL’S 2s higher than last week. There was little inquiry for the lighter sorts. Values were: Extra prime fat hoggets to 62s Id; prime 48s to 525; good 42s to 465; medium 36s to 40s; light 31s to 355.

Fat Sheep: The entry was 4250 and the quality fairly good, although not up to the standard of recent sales. Choice wethers sold steadily at last week’s prices throughout. Light wethers and heavy ewes were 3s 8d or 4s lower, and light ewes about 2s easier. Few sheep were in wool and forward.

Values were: Extra prime heavy wethers to 72s Id; prime heavy 64s to 68s; prime medium weight 56s to 635; ordinary 48s to 545; plain and unfinished 40s to 465; prime heavy ewes made to 49s Id; prime 36s to 40s; medium 30s to 355; ordinary 26s to 295; plain and unfinished 22s to 255. Fat Cattle.—The entry of 690 was the biggest for several weeks. Choice steers and heifers were about 20s easier, and cows a shade cheaper. Best beef made to 70s per 100, with a few sales at 72s 6d; good 52s 6d to 60s; medium 45s to 50s; best cow to 555; secondary to 42s 6d. Values were: Extra prime heavy steers to £3B 17s 6d; prime heavy £24 to £26; prime medium weight £2O to £24; ordinary and light £l6 to £l9; extra prime heifers to £25 2s 6d; prime £l4 10s to £lB 10s; ordinary and light £lO to £l3 10s. Extra prime cows to £24 7s 6d; prime £l3 to £l7; ordinary and light £8 to £l2. Porkers.—The yarding of porkers was of medium size. Competition was very keen and the sale was one of the’ best of the season. Choppers were forward in fairly numbers, but values improved about 10s on last week’s lower rates. Bacon.—The bacon yarding was the smallest for several weeks. Competition was keen and the sale excellent. Values were: Light porkers-£4 9s 6d to £4 17s 6d; medium £4 19)5 6d to £5 8s 6d; heavy £5 Ils 6d to £6 8s 6d. Choppers £6 7s 6d to £ll Is; light baconers £6 12s 6d to £6 17s 6d; medium £6 19s 6d to £7 4s 6d; heavy £7 7s 6d to £7 14s 6d; extra heavy £7 18s 6d to £8 9s 6d. The average per lb was 10’id to 10? d.

LAST OF J FORCE DRAFT NEARLY HERE WELLINGTi/N. Oct. G Some ,200 Wellington and South Island members of the J Force draft on the Duntroon, which berthed yesterday at Auckland, arrived at Wellington by special train this morning. The South Island draft of 143 will travel south by the Tamahine this afternoon and the Hinemoa this evening. The Westralia, with the balance of the J Force, is expected at Auckland on Monday. The Westralia is also carrying a draft of 20 R.N.Z.A.F., personnel under the charge of WingCommander W. H. Stratton, of Hawera.
