DUNEDIN GOLF CLUBS RAIDED
DUNEDIN, October 5. The action taken by the Auckland police in raiding the clubhouses of two golf clubs there in search of liquor has now had its parallel in Dunedin. On at least two occasions, recently a police sergeant, accompanied by a constable, has visited golf club houses after the legal closing hour for hotels in the city. The visits disconcerted considerably those who normally gather at the nineteenth hole, and especially those whose names were noted in the official black book which the police produce on such occasions. Following the procedure usually associated with visits of the police after hours to hotels in the city, -ne golf clubs set their "grapevine to work, with the result that some apparatus for the ready dispensing or liquor to club members was removed in a hurry from one golf clubs preDiiscs. It is believed that golfing tradition has suffered a rude shock by what is regarded by golfers as a salutary deterrent to patronising the nmteentn “after hours” in future. It was learned last night that court cases are pending.
