Notes on Trots
At the matinee trots, on Saturday, the first race, of a mile and a quarter won by Courageous, from Gizera and Loyal Volo, the other starters included Ladyship, Jack’s Pride, Black Globe, Huia, Chimes, filly scr; Adelma Sarsfield 36. From a good start Gizera and Loyal Volo showed out from Jack’s Pride and Ladyship, with Courageous, who had left the mark smartly, making up ground. Jack’s Pride failed to go, Adelma was slow away and Sarsfield broke up. There was no change with a half to go. Then Courageous mowed down the field, and into the straight, he was outside of Loyal Volo and Gizera, and he passed the post half a length in front of Gizera, with Loyal Volo a length further back.
In the second event, II miles, which a filly by Logan Fraser-Mayo Girl, Welcome Lady, Dramatist, and Pange Tiki also started. The winner, a pacer was quick away from Pange Tiki. These two opened up a gap of 20 lengths from Welcome Lady, who was slow away. Dramatist broke up and refused to settle down. Pange Tiki kept breaking, but held his position alongside the leader. Welcome Lady and Dramatist made up a lot of ground over the last half. Pange Tiki broke up with 100 yards to go, letting Welcome Lady into second place and Dramatist, who finished fast, was breaking in third place. Sea Pirate won the third event, 11 miles, by two lengths, from Gizera and Courageous, with Adelma fourth. Gizera and Sea Pirate led out from Red Queen, Adelma and Courageous. Then came Jack’s Fride, Nile Lass (60) and Sowden Beck (84). The leaders were the same around to the three. Then Courageous ranged up outside of Red Queen. Sowden Beck had made up a lot of ground at this stage. Sea Pirate, however, went on to win by a length from Gizera, with Courageous third. Time 2min 57 1-5 sec.
