Britain Needs More Coal

LONDON, October 4. The Minister of Fuel, Mr Hugh Gaitskell has announced that, from 12 000,000 to 1 15,000,000 more tons of coal than in 1948 must be produced next year to meet the export and home requirements. The nationalisation of the coal industry had undoubtedly been, a success from the miners’ viewpoint, but must also be a success for the rest, of the community, Mr Gaitskell said.
