Naval Men in Peru Attempt Revolution

LIMA, October 3. The Peruvian Government has suspended civil rights throughout the countrv, following' an apoarent attempt "to overthrow the Government. The revolt started at Callao, eight miles from Lima, where rebels, supported by sailors at the Callao naval arsenal and naval academy, overpowered the officers aboard the ships and attacked the Callao infantry barracks. The revolt was subdued after a gun-battle in. which fifty civilians were injured. ' Martial law has been declared, as it is reported the rebels are fleeing to the sea in warships with air force planes pursuing them. A Government communique claimed that the revolt' was insnired by the People’s Party, which the United Press says is non-Communist, but is opposed to President Jose Rivero.
