MORE THAN £66,000 IN FIRST DAY SALES OF HEALTH STAMPS

WELLINGTON, Oct. 4

More than £50,000 worth oi neaith stamps were sold throughout New Zealand on the first day the stamps were on sale. There are still some returns to come from some oi

outlying offices, but that amount'is more than the total stamps sold in the whole of the first week’s campaign last year. This was anno mice,, by the- Postmaster-General (the num F. Hackett) to-day. “It is a magnificent achievement.’ said the Minister. “It is a great credit to everyone who wo keu to make the first day a record and it is a credit, too, to the wholehearted support of the public.” The figures from the postal districts show Wellington at the top of the list with first day’s sales totalling £11,876 (£7122 on the first day last year). Other district figures arb:—Dunedin £3612 (£7508): Greymeuth £753 £417); Invercargill £2398 (£692); Masterton £B2O (£124); Palmerston North £3013 £2188); Timaru £lBl3 (£992); Westport £lOO (£82): stamps branch, £45,000 (£4357).

Record First Day

The final total for the health stamp first day sales, amounted to. £66,653, which exceeded last year's first day total by more than £27.000, sa’d the Postmaster-General (Hon. F. Hackett), to-night. “This is just over two-thirds of the whole campaign objective of £100,000.” said the Minister, “and is a magnificent achievement.” Postal district, totals are:— ■Auckland £8 055. Wanganui £2.390, Wellington £11.876, Westport 100, Whanga'rei £127. Overseas orders at the stamps branch totalled £4,500.
