Mr J. B. Kent, M.P., who returned on Saturday from Wellington, was a visitor yesterday to Hokitika.
Mr. Thomas Richard Elcock, aged 86, of Waitaha, and an old resident of South Westland, has died. He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. J. Douglas (Waitaha), and three sons, William (Ferguson’s). John (South Beach), and Albert. (Hokitika).
The Most Rev. Dr. John Fanico has been appointed Papal Nuncio to Peru with the rank of ambassador. Archbishop Panico has been Apostolic Delegate to Australia and New Zealand for thirteen years. The appointment to Peru was made by the Pope. He has several times visited the Dominion.
The death occurred suddenly in Christchurch early yesterday morning of Mr Charlie Dunnett. of the N.Z. Railway Department. The late Mr Dunnett was until about three years ago, employed in the Greymouth office for about three years. He is survived by his wife and two children. He was a native of Dunedin.
