Air-lift Grows in Spite of “Buzzing” By Soviet Planes

LONDON, Sept 30. “It will take a lot more than ‘buzzing’ to frighten us or interfere with the air-lift,’’ said the United States Military Governor, General Lucius Clay referring to Russian Yak fighter planes “buzzing” the air-lift planes. He said that 40 more Skymasters were on the way for the air-lift. The American commandant in Berlin, Colonel Howley, said the airlift had been' so effective that Allied experts were considering whethei’ to increase Western Berliners’ rations this winter. A British spokesman said the air- ’ / lift had already brought 258,000 tons of food and coal to Berlin. The average dailv tonnage had risen from 1559 in July" to 3770 tons in September. Berlin now has food reserves for 39 days.
