U.S. Communist Leader Reports Being Attacked
NEW YORK, Sept. 23. Robert Thompson, New York State chairman of the Communist Party, told the police that he had been stabbed and beaten by-two or three unidentified men in an alley to-day. The Communist Party has offered a 15,000 dollars reward for the arrest of men who knifed Thompson. His condition is not considered serious. A doctor said that he had a superficial stab wound in the abdomen, lacerations and bruises.
Mr Thompson is one of the 12 Communist leaders indicted by a Federal grand jury on charges of being connected with a group advocating the violent overthrow of the United States Government. He was carrying, a considerable amount of money, but the attackers did not attempt to rob him.
